Rachel Browning

Rachel Browning possesses extensive knowledge of immigration law earned from working with law firms and non-profit organizations in the Houston area.  She has a diverse range of experience preparing both nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions, in drafting appeals and responses to requests for evidence from the Departments of Homeland Security and Labor, and in conducting research into the constantly changing maze of immigration law. She gained a solid foundation in family-based immigration and human rights working for YMCA International Services and the University of Houston Immigration Clinic, where she filed petitions on behalf of applicants for asylum, NACARA, VAWA, and special immigrant juvenile status.

During her final semester of law school, she participated in internships with the U.N. Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the Special Court for Sierra Leone in The Hague, The Netherlands and attended the University of Leiden, where she studied international law and development. She received her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 2007.

Before law school, Rachel earned a Bachelor of Music Degree with Distinction in 1995 from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and was a professional clarinetist for nine years, performing for ensembles in the United States, Japan and Austria.  Her musical background and experiences abroad have provided her with unique insight into the legal profession, international law, and the immigrant perspective.
