Jefferson Read

Jefferson Read’s primary legal experience has been in the areas of litigation and appellate law.   Jefferson’s practice areas of litigation include commercial litigation, products liability, professional malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death, copyright and admiralty.  Jefferson’s litigation experience in Texas courts has been throughout Texas including Harris, Fort Bend, Bexar, Dallas, Tarrant, Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, Polk, Shelby, Leon, Webb, and Travis counties.   

Jefferson has appeared, argued and enjoyed a high rate of success in a wide variety of appeals at all levels including appeals in the First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals in Houston, the Sixth District Court of Appeals in Texarkana, the Seventh District Court of Appeals in Amarillo, the Ninth District Court of Appeals in Beaumont, the Thirteenth District Court of Appeals in Corpus Christi and Edinburg, the Texas Supreme Court, and the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Jefferson graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. degree in Psychology and minors in Portuguese and Family Science.  He continued his education working on a M.S. degree in Psychology at Brigham Young University and eventually graduating law school in 1999 from South Texas College of Law.  At South Texas College of Law Jefferson received the American jurisprudence award in Administrative law, received the Dean’s Award for Meritorious Service and was selected to assist in research and writing of a Sports law textbook with Professor Matt Mitten.  Jefferson also participated on the South Texas College of Law moot court team which went to the semi-finals in three national tournaments and took second place in a national invitational tournament in New Orleans and also took the best overall brief award in a national moot court tournament in Florida.  

Before finishing his undergraduate degree, Jefferson lived for two years in Brazil.  He and his wife, Bianca speak fluent Portuguese and have three children.  During his spare time Jefferson coaches his daughter’s youth basketball team and participates with his son in Boy Scouts.
