Once a Defendant is served, how long does the Defendant have to respond?

In Texas county and district courts, the Defendant must respond with a written answer by 10 AM on the first Monday after 20 days from the date the Defendant was served.  In Justice Courts or Small Claims Court, the Defendant must respond by the Monday after 10 days from the date the Defendant was served. If the 20th day lands on a Monday, the Defendant has until the next Monday to answer.  If the Defendant’s answer is due on a court holiday, the Defendant’s answer is due on Tuesday.
