What are requests for admissions?

When a party propounds requests for admissions, the other party has 30 days to admit or deny the statements.  The number of requests for admissions is usually unlimited.  The purpose of these requests is to eliminate matters that are not in dispute by the parties and to narrow the issues for trial.  If the responding party fails to do so, the statements may be deemed admitted.
