What do I do after filing a petition?

Once you have filed your petition, you need to serve the Defendant(s).  Generally, you must provide the Defendant(s) with a copy of the citation and petition.  You can have the Defendant(s) served by the sheriff, constable, or any other person authorized by law – including a private process server.  You can have the citation and petition served by personal delivery or mailing both documents by registered or certified mail, return receipt requested.  Make sure the court receives a copy of the return of citation evidencing service on the Defendant(s).
