What happens once the discovery period is over?
Once discovery is completed, many things can happen. The parties usually have a better appreciation for the strengths and weaknesses of their respective case at the conclusion of discovery. That being said, the parties may decide to participate in settlement negotiations via mediation. Or, a party can file a motion for summary judgment to dispose of certain causes of actions for which there exists no basis. In most instances, pre-trial strategy is just as important as trial strategy. Make sure you have an experienced trial attorney to help explain these important options and help you make the best decision regarding your case.
