Should an employer have an “anti-harassment policy”?
It would certainly be a good idea! Some suggested elements of such a policy could be:
- Prohibited conduct clearly defined;
- Protections against retaliation for those employees who make complaints of harassment;
- Understandable harassment complaint procedures;
- A confidentiality policy for those who make harassment complaints;
- A process by which the complaint is investigated timely, thoroughly and impartially;
- Assurance that the employer will take swift and appropriate action in the event harassment is found to have occurred.
