What is “construct validity” regarding the applicant selection process?

Construct validity is defined as “a demonstration that (a) a selection procedure measures a construct (something believed to be an underlying human trait or characteristic, such as honesty) and (b) the construct is important for successful job performance.” This type of validity test is used to aid an enforcement officer in determining if adverse impact exists as a result of hiring practices.
