First and foremost, by being the biological father, especially if there is an acknowledgment of paternity like signing a birth certificate, you have the right to see your child. Sometimes, however, those rights are not specifically spelled out and an action in Court may be necessary to define each parent’s rights. This action is called a Suit Affecting Parent Child Relationship (SAPCR). These cases are generally brought before the Court to determine stuff like where the child will live, paternity, visitation, and child support. If you are thinking of filing a SAPCR, it is important to contact an experienced family law attorney.
